Enjoy What You Have – It’s God’s Gift

Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 reminds us that it is good and right for a person to eat, drink, and find satisfaction in their work during the few days of life that God has given them. When God gives someone wealth and possessions, along with the ability to enjoy them and be happy in their toil, that joy itself is a gift from God.

The message is simple: true happiness comes from learning to enjoy what we already have. God gives us both the blessings of life and the ability to take delight in them. The happiest people are those who accept their portion in life, find peace in their daily work, and appreciate small, everyday moments—like sharing a meal or resting after a long day.

In today’s world, we often forget this truth. We chase after success and live by the “hustle culture,” always working for the next big thing—retirement, a bonus, or a dream vacation. We postpone joy, thinking it will come later. But the Bible teaches that life is short, and joy is meant to be experienced now. We are called to slow down, enjoy simple moments, and be grateful for what God has already given us.

Modern life constantly pushes us toward comparison and worry—through social media, financial stress, and world events. This can make us focus on what we lack instead of what we have. But when our hearts are filled with gratitude and joy, we stop being trapped by those anxieties. God gives us the ability to be content, to focus on the present, and to find joy in our daily work.

When we appreciate the little things and see our labor as part of God’s design, our days become more meaningful. Enjoyment, contentment, and peace are not rewards we have to earn—they are gifts God gives to those who receive their life with gratitude.

True joy doesn’t come from possessions or achievements, but from God Himself. To enjoy what we have, to accept our place in life, and to find satisfaction in our work—that is the deepest kind of wealth and the greatest gift of all.
